In the theatre we are switching to vista now, we use an older light board. We have all the channels for the respective lights written down. My question is would the channels change when vista is hooked up or would I just patch the fixtures into the channels on the patch screen?
When you say “channels” do you mean the “fixture DMX address”?
If so, yes you would patch the correct fixture (and control mode) to the same fixture DMX starting addresses you have historically used.
Vista also has something called “Fixture number” - This is basically an ID number for your reference. It has no impact on the actual DMX address. If however you are using single channel dimmers you may find it useful to keep a one to one match. For example if you have 10 dimmers starting at address 101 you may wish to ID these 101 thru 110, also patched at 101 thru 110.
i think that’s the same thing. So we use the k9 lighting pup series for our LEDs, think its 7 channels, so on our board now its controlled with 41-47. would i then patch it to fixture DMX address 41-47 in the vista software.
Correct
