Framing Shutter Patching

My proposed new feature involves how Vista handles Framing Shutters within moving lights.

We’ve been experimenting with Vista in our small theater with an eye towards a future purchase once the new console is unveiled and available. When testing Vista 3 R5 with our three Elation Fuze Profile fixtures we found that the four graphical user interfaces (i.e. the blades as they appear on the screen) don’t control the physical fixture shutters in the order we expected. In response to a Support Request ticket we were told that this should be fixed via an updated fixture file. Really? That sounds too complicated and somewhat pointless.

Typically, a fixture can reach any point in space via a short path or via a long path. That’s why the “Flip” button exists. Likewise a fixture can be sat on the floor, hung from a batten or (for some fancy ones) mounted sideways on a truss and installed “pointing” one of four ways. You’re telling me that we need to keep multiple updated fixture files so that each graphic blade matches its physical one in those cases?

I’m proposing that Top, Bottom, Left and Right be eliminated from Vista “fixture speak” and you match most other console’s generic terminology - A, B, C, D or 1, 2, 3, 4. Then, somewhere in Patch or better yet - directly within the Frame tab, we get a means of assigning each GUI blade to a corresponding fixture’s channel set. As long as the Factory fixture profile gives you full control of all four physical blades, you’ll can always tweak your GUI so that it reflects your reality for that particular fixture in that particular install position.

Or is that a crazy idea?

Thanks for your consideration,
Mark
