Apply Timing Presets To Individual Fixtures

Hi everyone, I could really use some workflow advice for a timing issue I’m stuck on in Vista.

I’m trying to apply timing only to specific fixtures in a cue list—without applying values. I know presets only apply values (not timing), so those are out. Extracts do recall timings, but they also bring back values, which creates a new problem.

Here’s the workaround I’ve been using:

  1. I update a preset with the current values I want.

  2. Then I recall the extract (which applies the correct timings, but wrong values).

  3. Finally, I recall the preset again to restore the correct values.

That almost works, but now the problem is: when I recall that preset again in other cues, it keeps the reference to the preset instead of separating the values. So if I ever update that preset, it changes all other cues that reference it. That’s not what I need, I want values to be unique after recall and I can’t find anyway to easily unlink them from the preset.

I considered using Time Masters, but they only affect overall cue time and don’t apply to individual fixture timings. I’ve also been told to try splitting my programming into separate cue lists (e.g. one for movers, one for washes), but I’m hesitant to do so because in my library of songs that would result in two cuelists that cannot be both triggered by the super playback at the same time and they would no longer be in sync unless I added jump commands on every cue in one of the lists.

Feature Idea:

Would it be possible to add a feature that works in setup just like an Extract, but it would only store timing versus fixture values. Maybe the addition of a button when applying an extract “Merge Timing Only” in addition to “Merge” and “Insert”. That would save so much time, especially when the timing pattern is consistent across songs. It would also eliminate the need to manually drag the timing bars cue by cue to replicate the same timing every time.

This would seriously speed up my workflow and improve flexibility in how timing is applied. Would love to hear if others have ideas or if this is already possible some other way!

Thanks in advance!

+1 to a time only Extract, i believe it is already on the request list

When programming in this manner you are already following the basic rules that you make a preset for every bit of referenced data thats in your show,

To speed up your currant workflow instead of applying the preset first, apply the extraxt first with just ‘placeholder’ values, then add your real values, and then save that as a preset

This way you can keep your timeing and data separate

Thanks for the response-I hope the feature is added soon as it is practically already implemented in extracts and it would really speed up my workflow.
