How do I create a swing color FX based on all current colors in the selection?

Hi! We just updated to Vista3 R5 Build 1715, and when I go to create a swing color mix FX, it’s basing the FX off ONLY the first selected fixtures’ current color. This is not the previous behavior, so perhaps I am selecting the wrong things when I create the FX? I LOVE the color gradient look, so I really appreciated the previous behavior where it would duplicate each fixture in the group’s current color and make an FX based on that.

For example, say I have 3 fixtures. The selection order and color are:

1-blue, 2-white, 3-red

In this selection, with V3 R5, when I create a swing color mix effect, all fixtures turn blue and I have a color effect to work with. But I’ve lost my colors, and have to recreate them. That would be simple in this example, but x300 some fixtures (though of course they are in groups, but still), and I start thinking I need to ask for help! :stuck_out_tongue:

What new way should I interact with the “Create Effect” dialogue to get the previous behavior?

Would you like to rephrase your question?
What is the end FX state you want to get to?

Forgive me, I sometimes struggle with clarity in communication. I’ll reply later today when I’m at a computer that has R4 and I can show in pictures what I’m trying to say.

Ok, here is a walkthrough of what the bahavior used to be in Vista3 R4 and back as far as I remember (been working in Vista for over a decade). But I could care less that it’s historic, I care if it’s a great feature. Chroma-Q has changed tons of stuff from what Jands had, and it is SO much better and more stable than it was. I only post to find out if I’m doing something incorrectly to get the results I want, or if there has been what I would consider a loss of functionlity/feature I find really useful.

Here is what I select when creating the effect:

Vista creates an effect for me that retains the gradient I started with. This is the desired behavior.

Now in Vista3 R5, I see the following behavior (perhaps I am not selecting something correctly). Note the color of fixture 1 in the selection (it is in the center of the line of fixtures).

This is how I am creating the effect:

The gradient is overwritten by the color of fixture 1 in the selection (this behavior is not desired). The effect is created.

Hopefully that helps?

It does.
We have made a lot of improvements to swing FX in R5. Mostly to how they are edited from cue to cue without destroying what you had in previous cues (which is what could happen in earlier versions).

Let me check with the team if there is a valid reason for the behavior you are seeing, or perhaps if it’s a small bug. (When creating a swing FX the first step does not take into account the original fan across the selection).

BTW - if you press the pause and edit button on each step. You absolutely can reapply your color fans and color presets and resume the effect to achieve the same stage results - although I do appreciate this now might be an extra click.

Ill be back!
