When in edit mode, it would be easy to have a shortcut to create a new cue as opposed to moving the mouse to the green plus sign. So something like Shift+N adds a new cue after select cue.

put the insert on the mapped keys … then use keyboard or the mapped buttons at the top of the surface … my insert after is F3… insert before is shift+F3 ( or red + f3 )
right click on the mapped key you want, tools, cues, insert before

Back in Vista 1 days Ctrl + Right Arrow did this too. I still find myself going for that one.
